Forest School is essentially an outdoor classroom. It is all about getting out in the woods to explore and learn. Sessions are led by a qualified Forest School Leader and provide a place for nature based learning. Each session involves specific tasks and activities through which children learn holistically and develop a range of social and personal skills that help equip them for life.
We have two Forest School areas and all of the children enjoy Forest School sessions throughout the year. During these sessions children not only use the outdoor environment to learn (whether that is in some way reinforcing something they may have been taught in another lesson or learning new concepts and skills), but are also encouraged to develop their independence, decision-making skills, teamwork and practical abilities whilst learning to care for the environment around them.
Activities can include: making dens, looking at insects, collecting sticks, tying knots, building and enjoying a campfire, whittling wood or just playing in mud!
